GETTING BROTHER FREDBURG'S GOAT OR GOATS
Brother Gary Fredburg and I were at the Pierce College Farm Center to set up an all-San Fernando Valley "spring-cleaning / garage sale" for Valley historical organizations, and took a walking tour of the facility. Both of us got the feeling that someone was looking at us. When Gary looked up he saw four goats checking out the world below.
Gary has been working diligently with Brothers Grady Talbot and me to build The Museum of the San Fernando Valley, and to create opportunities for our far flung Brothers to see one another.

Br. BILL SPIVEY LIVES IN AUSTIN, TEXAS.
The Spivey Family
Brother Bill Spivey was initiated into the Phi Delta Psi Fraternity in the Fall of 1964.
A letter from Bill:
Dear Friends,
Following an Associate of Arts degree in Graphic Design from Pierce College, Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising from Woodbury University, Los Angeles,
I accepted an offer from Philco Ford Aeronutronic, Newport Beach, CA.
After enjoying 3 wonderful years in the art department, a change felt appropriate. I had been a Leadman of a Technical Illustration team, but had an offer from a supervisor. The head of the commercial art department was moving to the private sector. The chance to be at his right hand and grow my experience was compelling.
Wayne Hendricks, owner of Graphico Design, was a tremendous mentor and motivator, but after 3 years of observation and experience, it was my time to test the waters.
William Spivey Design enjoyed 25 years as a prominent design firm in Newport Beach, CA. At 55 years of age, I was mature enough for my first and only marriage to Mechelle Salon. We had a baby girl in December of 2002. In that same year we moved from our long time home in Corona del Mar, California to Cocoa Beach, Florida. After some 5 years or so in Florida, we recently settled in Austin, Texas.
I am enjoying semi retirement, performing occasional projects and reconnecting to old friends.

Our commitment to the AIDS Lifecycle Bicycle Ride, from San Francisco to Los Angeles each year, begins early. In this case, Janne and I got up at 4:30 am to drive to Manhattan Beach, California to support the riders participating in the A.L.C. "Kickoff Ride" on October 24th. We cut and handed out bagels and bananas. New riders received basic instruction, and there were rides of various lengths for those of differing skills. Our son Brendan led a beginners' ride. He calls his novice riders, his possums.

Background of Richard Glazer-Danay
Richard Glazer-Danay came to Pierce College in the fall of 1962, after completing two years of active duty in the US Army Reserves. It was while taking art classes at the community college, that he determined to become a professional artist. At Pierce, Ric joined the Phi Delta Psi student fraternity and subsequently became a lifelong member of its alumni organization, the Maple Leaf Society.
After Pierce College, Richard Glazer-Danay earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at California State University Northridge and two years later received a Master of Arts from CSU Chico and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California Davis. For some years Danay taught painting at CSU Chico, and later became a professor of American Indian Studies at CSU Long Beach and chairman of the university’s program.
A certified member of the Caughnawaga-Turtle Clan of the Kahnawake Band of Native Americans, Richard Glazer-Danay has created a world famous body of art derived from both pop and postmodernist art movements, and he employs a wry and ironic sense of humor in his interpretation of Indian themes and the status of women in modern American life. Inspired by his ironworking family, Danay is best known for his hard hat art.
Mr. Glazer-Danay has been a consultant for the U.S. Office of Education, Office of Indian Education, U.S. Forest Service, Civil Rights compliance, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Glazer-Danay is a member of the National Indian Education Association, College Art Association, Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Education Committee, and the board of directors for Educational Opportunity Center, Oneida Tribe of Wisconsin. The Museum of the San Fernando Valley, incorporated as a California non-profit organization in 2005, is in its developmental years. It is in the process of obtaining input and gathering support from valley residents and from the business, public, private, and non-profit sectors.

The Museum's collections of art and historical items exist for scholarly research and for public enjoyment.
The Museum collects, preserves, and shares with the entire San Fernando Valley important works of art as well as folk art and crafts.

Br. LOWELL RICHARD BOX
Br. Lowell Richard Box - Photo in The Archives of The Museum of the San Fernando Valley - October 15, 2009 at Barrone's Restaurant in Valley Village
Notes:
Brother Richard Box was born on February 24, in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was a member of the first pledge class of the Phi Delta Psi Fraternity in the Spring of 1957. He served several terms as Treasurer of the Fraternity. For almost a year, he as Treasurer, struggled to increase the dues of the Brotherhood from 25¢ a week to 50¢. Then, opportunity came his way when the Oxnard House became available. He succeeded in increasing the dues to $1.00 a week - gives you an idea of what a dollar was worth in 1958.
After completing his studies at Valley College, Richard attended the University of Southern California, where he earned Bachelor and Master's degrees from the School of Business.
As a youth, Dick loved hanging around the garage-workshop of a neighbor, Matt Rosecrans. The owner of a carpet mill in Glendale, Matt taught Dick the basic use of tools and eventually gave him a job working in his factory. After college Br. Richard entered into partnership with Matt and spent some years as an owner-manufacturer of carpets.
Richard Box developed an expertise in overall manufacturing management, and for some time he taught business classes for Moorpark College and at California State University Northridge. He spent five years with Lockeed Aircraft as the Manager of Industrial Engineering before becoming vice president (and later president) of the Bourns Tripot Division of Bourns Inc. of Riverside, California. He retired in April of 2004.
Susan and Richard Box have three children: Susan E., Joe and Steven. They have five grandchildren: Nicole, William, Carla, Alexandra & Danny. One of their sons resides in Barcelona, Spain, so they are truly an international family. Dick and Sue live in Redlands, California.

Brother James Reeves' birthday is the 2nd of May. He attended Canoga Park High School and was initiated into the Phi Delta Psi Fraternity in the Spring of 1960. He served our Brotherhood as Treasurer of the Beta Chapter.
After finishing his studies at Pierce College, Jim transferred to the University of California Los Angeles where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Jim worked for many years as an engineer for Hughes Corporation.
Sue Reeves, Jim's wife is the only employee of the Los Angeles Businesspersons Organization. She is an avid golfer (Jim adds, "and hopefully me.") She works mostly at home and goes into the city for meeting two or three times a month.
Jim and Sue's son Marc will become a Catholic priest in the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) in 2005. In 2004 Marc studies at Weston College on the campus of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He holds a Master of Arts degree and just finished a year of study in Rome.
Brother Jim Reeves is retired, but works as a substitute teacher for the Conejo Valley Unified School District and private schools near his home. He also tutors high school students in math. Jim enjoys wilderness hiking, mostly near the Mammoth Lakes. He likes to capture great compositions in his photographs on his hiking and travel adventures. Jim is also an avid reader, taking on at least two to three books a month.

Br. BOGDANOFF PLAYS CAPTAIN DANA
Brother John Bogdanoff is very active in community activities. Here he plays in an historic re-enactment, as Captain Dana.
A re-enactment of the 1850 marriage of Maria Josefa Dana to Henry Tefft highlighted the 10th annual Heritage Day held Sunday at the Dana Adobe in Nipomo.
Dozens of actors in period costumes re-created the wedding of Nipomo founders Capt. William G. Dana and Maria Josepha Dana de Carrillo’s daughter.
Others demonstrated a variety of crafts from the day, from candlemaking and spinning to brickmaking and blacksmithing as vaqueros’ and sailors’ encampments ringed the adobe.
Visitors joined docents to dance to period music, toured the rooms to view restoration efforts and heard an explanation of an archaeological dig recently conducted on the verandah.
The annual celebration is staged by the Dana Adobe Amigos, a nonprofit organization that’s restoring the two-story adobe home and working to create a historical park to re-create a portion of Rancho Nipomo.
