Notes:
Brother Richard Box was born on February 24, in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was a member of the first pledge class of the Phi Delta Psi Fraternity in the Spring of 1957. He served several terms as Treasurer of the Fraternity. For almost a year, he as Treasurer, struggled to increase the dues of the Brotherhood from 25¢ a week to 50¢. Then, opportunity came his way when the Oxnard House became available. He succeeded in increasing the dues to $1.00 a week - gives you an idea of what a dollar was worth in 1958.
After completing his studies at Valley College, Richard attended the University of Southern California, where he earned Bachelor and Master's degrees from the School of Business.
As a youth, Dick loved hanging around the garage-workshop of a neighbor, Matt Rosecrans. The owner of a carpet mill in Glendale, Matt taught Dick the basic use of tools and eventually gave him a job working in his factory. After college Br. Richard entered into partnership with Matt and spent some years as an owner-manufacturer of carpets.
Richard Box developed an expertise in overall manufacturing management, and for some time he taught business classes for Moorpark College and at California State University Northridge. He spent five years with Lockeed Aircraft as the Manager of Industrial Engineering before becoming vice president (and later president) of the Bourns Tripot Division of Bourns Inc. of Riverside, California. He retired in April of 2004.
Susan and Richard Box have three children: Susan E., Joe and Steven. They have five grandchildren: Nicole, William, Carla, Alexandra & Danny. One of their sons resides in Barcelona, Spain, so they are truly an international family. Dick and Sue live in Redlands, California.
