IS THIS OUR JEANNE VALVO?

John Valvo was one of the most beloved Brothers in the Mother Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Psi. His widow's name is Jeanne. Is the woman in the center of the picture below our Jeanne Valvo?

Item by item, The Museum's collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the two Los Angeles based Olympic Games continues to grow. 2010  THE YEAR OF VALLEY ADVENTURES

A great thing about the artist Richard Glazer-Danay is that he still has so many friends and fans in the San Fernando Valley. This gives those of us who admire his talent, the chance of wonderful surprises, like seeing this John Wayne sculpture pierce in recently in the home of Br. Jerry Berns. Ric made the piece for a lifelong buddy, who served in the United States Marine Corps in the Vietnam war.

(click on this image to enlarge)  Other Ric Glazer-Danay's works are in the collections of the Pierce College Foundation, Jerry and Janne Fecht and The Museum of the San Fernando Valley. The actor John Wayne lived for many years in Encino, California.
       Br. Greg Petrello notes: "Our family moved to Encino when I was 14 years old and Jonh Wayne lived a few blocks away on Valley Vista & Encino Ave. I remember climbing his fence and going up to his door to get a autograph. He was not home but the maid gave me a signed photo on Mr. Wayne. All can say is "Where are the John Waynes" today?"

DENNIS NOLET AND JERRY BERNS - A LIFELONG FRIENDSHIP

TWO BETA CHAPTER GROUP PICTURES c 1963

These two group photographs of Beta Chapter Brothers were donated to the Archives of The Museum of the San Fernando Valley in October of 2010 by Br. Jerry Berns.

 Beta Chapter Brothers at Los Angeles Pierce College. The man obscured behind Br. Bill Eislaben is unknown. Br. Dick Mlack notes that he sent the same photos to me (Jerry Fecht) "a long time ago". The photos must have been distributed to the whole chapter. These images were among the collection donated to The Museum from Jerry Berns.

The Museum is getting very close to acquiring a headquarters / work space, and when we get this area you'll be invited to drop in and work on the Phi Delta Psi Archives. In the meanwhile, how about identifying these guys for us. Left to right, top to bottom.

PHI DELTS AT SERVICE FOR DANTON BURROUGHS

Phi Delta Psi Friends of Danton Burroughs - May 17, 2008 - Archive of The Museum of the San Fernando Valley.

A powerful tribute was held this afternoon to honor the life and spirit of Danton Burroughs, long time friends of many Phi Delts.
Over 200 people braved an over 100 degree afternoon at the Tarzana Community Center. Among them were (l to r) Jerry Berns, Rob Miller, Peter Shields and Jerry Fecht.

JERRY BERNS MUSEUM DONATION

Jerry Berns - Tarzan Books Donation - 2008 - Archive of the Museum of the San Fernando Valley
To honor the memory of our great old friend, Danton Burroughs who died this last week, Br. Jerry Berns has donated eight first edition Edgar Rice Burroughs books to your Museum. Each of the books has an inscription written by Danton Burroughs to our Fraterntiy Brother in 1987.
Grady Talbot, Gary Fredburg and Jerry Fecht have been working to bring about The Museum of the San Fernando Valley for the last four years. Our goal is to bring about a full service Museum of history and culture for the San Fernando Valley. The Museum maintains extensive electronic archives, one of which is the Archive of the Phi Delta Psi Fraternity. (The photos on this Maple Leaf Brotherhood blog are part of this Archive.
The Museum is working with the Weddington Heritage Trust to preserve the historic Weddington House in North Hollywood. The City agreed with us, and the house is scheduled to be move to the north-west corner of North Hollywood Park on Chandler Boulevard. When the house is moved, within the next two months, the Museum will begin laying out our management plans for the house.

DANTON BURROUGHS HAS DIED

One of the San Fernando Valley's greatest friends of history, Danton Burroughs has died. Dan died sometime after 10 last evening. He had struggled with Parkinson's Disease for sometime, but his death may have been related to a significant fire among his historical treasures on April 30th. Danton was the grandson of the beloved author Edgar Rice Burroughs, creator of Tarzan.
Danton died at his home in Tarzana, a San Fernando Valley suburb named by his grandfather. Danton was the son of the great American photographer John Coleman Burroughs. He was a founder of the Tarzana Museum and supporter of The Museum of the San Fernando Valley.
Danton was a member of Chi Chi Chi Fraternity at Los Angeles Pierce College and was a lifelong friend of many members of the Beta Chapter of the Phi Delta Psi Fraternity. Among the last persons to speak with him is Br. Jerry Berns who had a long conversation with Dan about 8 o'clock last evening. He commented to Jerry Fecht, the morning after the fire, that he cherished his college friends, who were the greatest of his treasures.
At Dan's request, Jerry Fecht went to his home the morning after the fire to photograph damage. The photographs are a tragic record of how fragile our friendships and our history can be.
Services for Danton are not as yet decided.

These black and white photos are from a Beta Chapter album c. 1962. The photos were attached by an adhesive that long ago failed. Each time the pages of the album are turned the photos fall out. I am gradually scanning all of the pictures, sending copies to Br. LeRoy Hunt and securing the original photographs in the Phi Delta Psi archives of The Museum of the San Fernando Valley.

Jerry, this was identified as a stag around 1961. I joined in Spring 62, so it is probably in that time frame.
I actually remember the shirt I had on. I loved it and wore it a lot!!
