An old Phi Delta Smoker Joke

This is an old Phi Delt smoker joke.

A Zen Buddist lightning rod salesman is traveling through Kansas when he sees a farmer beating a horse. He stops.
"Why are you beating the horse?" he asked.
"The horse won't pull my plow!"
"Would you mind my speaking with your horse" asked the Zen lightning rod salesman? "We Zen Buddhists can talk with animals."
He whispers in the horse's ear. The horse whinnies and the salesman says.
"He says he has a burr under the harness and it is painful to pull the plow." The farmer removes the burr and the horse resumes its work.
Then the salesman hears chickens.
"They are worthless" says the farmer.
"Do you mind me talking with your chickens?"
Cluck, cluck............
"Well your chickens are not laying eggs, because you went to town and got drunk and failed to feed them"
"Do you mind me speaking with your sheep?"
The farmer responds,
"Nah..... you can't believe those lying bastards."

LeRoy Hunt sent us this photograph of Br. Dave Cox. Unfortunately, the picture came through as a "thumb" picture and very small. I'll contact LeRoy to see if he can send this in a larger format.

Dave Cox was initiated into the Phi Delta Psi Fraternity's Beta Chapter in the Spring of 1962. In 2008, Dave and his wife Marcia are retired and live in Danville, California.
They share a 19 year old son, Jason. Dave spends some of his free time playing golf.

TRIBUTE TO NANCY GATCH

Nancy Gatch

Nancy Jane Gatch, 64, of Westlake Village, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2008.
She was born on Jan. 17, 1944, Detroit, Mich. She was a Westlake Village resident for 39 years. She received her Bachelor of Arts and two lifetime teaching credentials from California State University, Northridge.

Nancy loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was very active in her community, including being a member of the National Charity League and the Assistance League. Skiing, tennis and traveling as much as possible were pastimes she loved. Her passion and the greatest joy in her life, second only to family and friends, was teaching. The lives of the many students and educators touched by her in 40 years in the classroom will forever be changed for the better.

Nancy's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved her and were blessed to share in this special lady's too short time in our lives. She is survived by her husband, Philip E. Gatch; son Philip H. Gatch; son Garrett G. Gatch; daughter, Arianna N. Gatch; son Brandon B. Gatch; mother, Sadie Crouch; brother, Howard Crouch; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.

A service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Calvary Community Church, 5495 Via Rocas, Westlake Village. A reception will follow at the church.

MIKE ROSENTHAL

Michael Rosenthal - Archive of The Museum of the San Fernando Valley - 2008
Brother Michael Alan (Mike) was born in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School.
Mike pledged the Phi Delta Psi in the Spring of 1962 and was the 277th member of the Fraternity. He served the Brotherhood as twice President of the Alpha Chapter in 1965. Mike Rosenthal was the recipient of the Richard J. Radcliffe Leadership Award. He also served as Vice President of the Fraternity and Pledge Master in the Fall of 1965.
After the conclusion of his studies at Valley College, Mike transferred to California State University Northridge where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. He served in the United States Army from June 1966 until June 1968.
In 2004, Mike Rosenthal continues a career is in real estate investments. He and his wife Sue share three children, two daughters and a son, Randy. They are 27, 23 and 20 years of age. They reside in Calabasas, California.
